Description
The best way to make content for IMVU using Blender is to begin everything from one of the compatible Starter Files, a collection of *.blend files each containing all the essential elements and components needed to make products, avatar dummies, starter meshes and more to help mesh furniture, animate poses, create clothing and more complex mixed (catalogue) category items, it can all be made using Blender. More details given as each Starter File is used throughout the series.

Design note: for newer versions of Blender a set of Alternative Starter Files are available that are organised to be more user friendly but function in exactly the same way as the legacy files described, e.g. bones and meshes are selected and manipulated the same way.
