Installing Blender 5.x to a MacBook Air/Pro should be the same for any version of Blender. Once downloaded (double)click the installer, either from the web browsers ‘download’ list, or from the Downloads folder. In the installer helper that appears, drag and drop Blender.app into Applications. Double-click the Applications shortcut to open the Applications folder where Blender will be ready for use.

Design note: additional considerations installing Blender to a computer running MacOS;
Important: Blender 5.0 is not available for Intel-based MacOS devices, the last viable version for these is Blender 4.5 LTS – while it may be possible to emulate the ‘Silicon’ MacOS environment on an Intel-based Mac to facilitate installation and use Blender 5.0, this may incur heavy performance penalties.Administrative User
Blender 3D is not an Apple authorised app, i.e. it’s not available from the Appstore, so installation may require (password) permission from an ‘Administrative User’ account – accounts with limited privileges or permissions may not be able to install Blender because doing so requires ‘modifying’ the device.
Multiple Blender Versions
If another installation of Blender exists on the system, a notification will appear to that affect when installing the new version, asking if existing application should be overridden, removed or both be kept. In the latter case the process renames the app, maintaining both instances. To avoid this, previous versions can be manually (re)named from within the Applications folder, i.e. from “Blender.app” to “Blender 4.5 TLS.app“; in Finder, access Applications and simply right-click the app and select Rename from the menu options, or slow-click twice.
First Use
When used for the first time, and typically after a clean install where no other version is present, Blender will present the Quick Setup overlay where a number of basic environment options can be set, namely the main language and mouse-click preference – Left for contemporary compatibility, or Right for legacy purposes. Set the options then click Okay to continue to the standard start overlay. Click anywhere on-screen to dismiss the overlay and use Blender.
When opened for the first time the Quick Setup overlay is presented where basic environment options can be set; language and mouse-click selection primarily.
