New Member, How to Start Learning with Blender
« on: April 16, 2011, 11:30:04 AM »
Hello to the members of this forum. I am a new member and very exited to be part of this outfit.

I really wish to learn how to make animation 3D and with Blender siftware. As I think Blender is the best software out there to start. Is there a bunch of videos that would explain how to start learning the software?

I've downloaded the software Blender to my computer but I am afraid to install it as I think this is going to be the most complicated piece of software and would confuse me straight away.

That is why I want to learn slowly with starting from step number 1. I would like to build Animation for videos. I would like to build real nice websites with animation, 3D etc...

Please asist?

Thanks.

If you specifically want *video* tutorials then your best bet will be to search through YouTube or visit Gryllus, he has a number of tutes (I've not seen better *videos* for beginners) that will get you started from "step 1", KatsBits doesn't yet have videos that address this and the text and image based Blender Basics tutorials on KatsBits assume the application has been installed.

Just so you know, although there is a lot of overlap between the two, making content for "animation" (i.e. "film") vs "game" (which is what KatsBits is geared towards) require slightly different skill development. Keep that in mind as you start to look into what you want to do.

I am SO, SO, SO very thankful for the text and image based tutorials!  I've had to go over them numerous times, just to get things into my head.  The videos (even Gryllus') are just too fast to follow.

The concepts of the Blender software can be really hard to grasp, for a beginner like myself.  I'm familiar with ViaCad, loved TurboCad and AutoCAD.  I treasure my Paint Shop Pro 7.  However, Blender took me into an entirely different world!

I am not learning it for drawing game scenes.  Perhaps not having an interest in gaming hampers my ability to grasp Blender's features immediately, I don't know. I just want to be artistic and creative.  Blender certainly is challenging.  I cannot say that I'm bored!

You're very welcome. Text and image based tutorials do tend to favour a slower and slightly more methodical approach to learning ;) Having said that their being augmented with video helps so we're in the (long) process of updating some to include moving images to aid the process!

Game models are a good place to start by the way, largely because they can be relatively simple and still be used to build complex scenes and ideas. Welcome aboard!
