Bake Normal maps using Blender Internal

New tutorial on using Blender Render, or Blender Internal as it's commonly known, to generate Normal maps from high and low resolutions mesh pairs. It need not be as complicated and confusing as it might seem and in fact, so long as a texture image is involved baking is relatively straightforward. Also covered are some of the issues using Blenders texture baking system and the solutions to work around them.
