Title: Blender 2.56 ASE & MD5 script updates
Post by: kat on January 25, 2011, 10:41:11 AM

Thanks to "NB" who sent through the pertinent information on this. Both the ASE and MD5 export scripts have been fixed so they should now work OK with Blender 2.56. They can be fixed by editing some text - ase details here and md5 details here. Or just download the updates from KatsBits tools page here.

I'm back on Blender 2.49 as it was pre-installed on my Ubuntu 10.10 (UE)... let's hope the Blender core team makes progress with a stable 2.5x or 2.6.

For what we generally use Blender for i.e. content developed for games, the core application is stable enough. I'm not producing much actual content these days but writing up the tutorials means I'm doing a few things in more depth and have yet to have any application issues. Having said that, 2.5 obviously doesn't have the 'maturity' of 2.49 as a production tool (import/export scripts etc), and whilst the user-base grows, the demands that requires in terms of tools and scripts just can't keep up. I personally think Blender has got to the point where they need to hire a full time team instead of having people work on something for a while to get their skill 'l33tified' only to have them transfer to something more lucrative.

thanks kat, and pazur does that mean you were using 2.5x but switched back to 2.49 and if so why, if you don't mind me asking?

too lazy to install 2.5 on Ubuntu so nothing really wrong with 2.5 and i'm used to 2.49. moreover there are more tutorials for 2.49. on my Windows partition I still have 2.5 and I'm updating it as the releases come out

Speaking of ASE tutorials for 2.5 (http://www.katsbits.com/tutorials/blender/blender-2.5-export-ase-models.php) *cough* Also working on one for MD5, bit more complex that though so I don't know when it'll be done.
