Finally after several protracted years on the back burning, Generator, a single player mini-mod for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, is available for download to tie us all over whilst waiting for The New Order. For more information click here (original microsite is still available for archive purposes).

Known issues (in no specific order):
  • AI don't always behave the way they should (always the way).
  • Exit door after first 'boss' battle (lvl2) can be operated using door even though set to button only.
  • AI may not drop any weapons if killed before they get a chance to shoot (despite weapon being in-hand).
  • 'Exit' sequences may appear to show two different stats, this is correct and due to the system not updating itself as quickly as possible (resulting in a slight delay).
  • There are no 'checkpoint' saves so use F5 to quick-save and F9 to quick load.
  • Return to Castle Wolfenstein should be patched to 1.32 for mod to work correctly.
Extra special thanks to ronboy and vicpas and the chaps at Splash Damage forums.

kat, have you heard any feedback of whether your mod works with the steam version of rtcw?

So far as I can tell everyone appears to be using versions of the game from release or similar. I'm not in a position to test it myself unfortunately.

understood, and at least there are people who still have the retail versions.

I've had Generator in a list of bookmarks since you started the page (8 years?). I'm kind of amazed you finished it. I think you did the right thing, because unfinished maps eat away at your soul :D

Anyway, great mini-mod. Very playable. I got stuck at the beginning  of map two. I'm not sure why I didn't try blowing up the grate in the sewer earlier - I guess over the years I've become more used to getting spoon-fed directions by video games. Anyway - very entertaining. Thank you.

Cheers. The start of lvl2 seems to catch a few people out because you're right, games are directing rather than encouraging exploration. And very true about needing to finish projects like this, the larger ones especially gnaw at the craw!
