Title: [tutorial] learning Blender 2.5
Post by: kat on September 27, 2010, 05:26:59 PM

New tutorial is up on learning the new Blender 2.5. The material takes the reader through the process of making a simple chair object as a means to leanr about the tools within the context of their use, which helps information retention. In six 'chapters' it covers the layout, basic navigation through to modelling, material and UVW maps. Source files are also available (see tutorial pages for link).

First off, thanks for this tutorial.  I'm hoping to do more with Blender for my professional work, and this tutorial has helped me understand a lot more in a couple hours, than the same number of hours I've spent reading the Blender books (not that the books are bad, just different).

I think I found one mistake in the tutorial though (but I could be wrong):

Part 6: UVW Maps

About 1/3 down the page:

Marking seams ^

Once all the appropriate edges are selected press "Ctrl+E" to open the "Edges" menu (shown below) and select "Mark Edges" from the available list of options to mark the them as seams, they will display in the 3D view highlighted red. This isolates the chair legs, creating a separate element in the UVW map, there will eventually be a number of these elements corresponding to the UVW sections we're creating.

I'm thinking that the "mark edges" in the first sentence above should say "Mark Seams".

Thanks for this, though, it helped me a lot.

Oooh well spotted sir!  ;) Fixed (may need a page refresh). Glad the material's helping you get to grips with 2.5
