Noticed recently that there is a 64-bit version of blender 2.49 http://www.chip.de/downloads/Blender-64-Bit_44340593.html

Is there any advantage of using it instead of the 32-bit version?

I found this here on the topic: http://www.blendernation.com/64-or-32-bits-that-is-the-question/

AFAIK the only advantage to having a 64 bit machine is that you can address a larger section of memory as you can have 64 bit address rather than 32 bit address.

So if you are using blender for things that require large amount of memory, high polly work, sculpting etc. then the 64 bit might give you a bit of a boost (assuming the rest of your system is still pretty hefty). Otherwise I doubt you would notice any difference.

Yah, what carnage said. In addition.. I do remember reading that you couldn't use a 64 bit version of Blender on a 32 bit system as it wouldn't yeld any benefit; reading between the lines it looked like you could loose performance doing that as well.

Ok. Got it. So think I will stick to 32-bit for now.
