Title: blender foundation's new bug tracker "maniphest"
Post by: ratty redemption on January 14, 2014, 11:21:56 PM
anyone here know how to start a new bug report on their site?

i found a couple of critical bugs concerning 3d view transforms and display of the manipulator, but i can't find any open reports on them. might be due to the build i'm using is from today.

i found a link and reported the bugs:

https://developer.blender.org/maniphest/task/create/?projects=PHID-PROJ-hclk7tvd6pmpjmqastjl&type=Bug

@kat, can you test this link works your end?

[EDIT] combined concurrent posts. kat

That link does go to the bug 'report' page yes but it's not a 'blank' report (it contains some profile data of the person clicking the link if they have a membership on tracker). There are links to report various types of Bugs on the Home page - https://developer.blender.org/ (https://developer.blender.org/). The link to the bug you submitted is here - https://developer.blender.org/T38226 (https://developer.blender.org/T38226)

thanks kat, i had apparently been going straight to the maniphest index page from my chrome bookmark, i didn't realize there was a actual home page, and i can see there are clearly labeled links to start bug reports on that, cool.

what did you think of the report i submitted? i was trying not to be too subjective, although i would personally think that not being able to transform objects or verts etc along 2 of the main 3 axis was "critical" yes?

I can't comment on it beyond saying "that's why I don't use dev builds" ;) Aside from that, it does seem a pretty fundamental aspect of Blender to break without noticing.

he he, i must admit i prefer the dev/alpha/beta's due to knowing some of the bugs have been fixed, including ones i report. but i rarely use these builds for the new features.

it's a gamble though, there's a 50/50 chance some tools or ui elements will be broken with each build, the last bug i reported involved blender not launching to the exact size of windows 7 desktops, which took them a couple of weeks to fix, during which time i stuck with a previous version.

and thankfully campbell is looking into these bugs, they might already of fixed them, as apparently the latest linux version doesn't have them.

i get the impression the win os versions are ports? it doesn't seem like they test on that platform as much as the do mac and linux?

good news, they have just fixed the 3d view transform and manipulator bugs in the win64 builds, so kudos to the devs for getting those done so quickly. my confidence is growing in the devs getting the pending 2.7 stable for us windows users.
