To address this objects  need to be changed, which can be done quite easily in Blender or IMVU.<\/p>\n<p>Familiarity with  Blender and creating products for IMVU  is highly recommended for best results.<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"background-color: #fc0; color: #000;\">\n<p style=\"font-size:110%;\">The  following material does not discuss making the game model\/mesh seen in IMVU, i.e. &#8216;chair&#8217;, &#8216;lamp&#8217;, &#8216;bed&#8217; or other visual element Users actually see in game\/client. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/site\/chair\/\" title=\"Learn how to use Blender to make meshes for IMVU\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">To learn how to mesh and make model in Blender click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Introduction\"><\/span>Introduction<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The FBX format, being a product of the same company that develops 3D Studio Max, favours the use of   a metric measurement system  that tends to  cause  issues for assets exported from Blender because, whilst Blenders measurement system is decimal, its not metric by default, leading  models, skeletons, animations etcetera  to be  disproportionately large on import into IMVU if the disparity is not compensated for between the two programs and the file format. This essentially means  a mesh object, a block measuring 2<sup>3<\/sup> (2x2x2) <i><b>units<\/b><\/i> in Blender, imports as 2<sup>3<\/sup> <b><i>metres<\/i><\/b> in FBX and IMVU, which might then make the object grossly oversized. <\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"background-color: #fc0; color: #000;\">\n<p><b>Important<\/b>:   the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/site\/category\/tools\/\" title=\"Download the IMVU starter files for Blender\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">default starter and example files<\/a> are  correctly sized\/scaled relative to Blender and 3D Studio Max and should not\/do not need to be altered.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>To solve the problem one of three options can be used, to;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>change scale at <b>EXPORT<\/b> from Blender.<\/li>\n<li>change scale at <b>IMPORT<\/b> into IMVU.<\/li>\n<li>make changes to  Blenders <b>UNITS<\/b> system.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<blockquote>\n<p><b>Design note<\/b>: the differences in scale between FBX, Blender and IMVU is largely  &#8216;interpretive&#8217;. In other words, whilst Blender and IMVU use  decimal measurement systems, the &#8216;value&#8217; attributed to each unit, i.e. what the number represent, defaults to just raw numerical values in Blender, and those same numbers being representative of a unit &#8216;type&#8217; in FBX and IMVU, in this instance the &#8216;Metric&#8217; system. <\/p>\n<div class=\"content_images\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-nodes\/fbx-scaling-incorrect.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-nodes\/fbx-scaling-incorrect_sml.jpg\" alt=\"Imported into IMVU with change results is overly largel assets\" title=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When imported into IMVU using both the same export scale from Blender and import scale into IMVU, assets will load disproportionately large (approximately 100x actual size) due to differences in the way BLender, IMVU and the FBX format handle  size and what numerical values are relative to<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Setting_Export_Scale\"><\/span>Setting  Export Scale<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>To ensure assets exported from Blender are correctly scaled relative to IMVU on import, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/site\/furniture-nodes\/\" title=\"Exporting node based furniture to IMVU\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">select all the items to be exported as normal<\/a> then in the FBX export dialogue\/file browser (&quot;<b>File &raquo; Export &raquo; FBX (.fbx)<\/b>&quot;) left-click the  &quot;<b>Scale:<\/b>&quot; input text box and change the value typing  &quot;<b>0.01<\/b>&quot; (&quot;<b>Scale: 0.01<\/b>&quot;). Press &quot;<b>Enter<\/b>&quot; to confirm then left-click the &quot;<b>Export FBX<\/b>&quot; button top-right. Blender will parse the scene down-scaling by 99%  to 1%. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><b>Design note<\/b>: prior to export make sure that &quot;<b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/site\/furniture-nodes\/\" title=\"Use &quot;Apply&quot; to reset meshes\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Apply &raquo; Rotation &amp; Scale<\/a><\/b>&quot; is used to reset the selected objects &quot;<b>Dimensions:<\/b>&quot; and &quot;<b>Scale:<\/b>&quot; values.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When loaded into IMVU using the FBX import feature, after import leave the &quot;<b>Apply scale:<\/b>&quot; value at the default &quot;<b>1.0<\/b>&quot;, then click &quot;<b>Import<\/b>&quot;. The grid floor in the 3DView will update confirming the change.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><b>Design note<\/b>: when using this compensatory approach the grid floor of the 3DView changes to what becomes very large unit scaling. To address this, with the mouse over the 3DView, press &quot;<b>N<\/b>&quot; to access &quot;<b>Properties<\/b>&quot; (or select &quot;<b>View &raquo; Properties<\/b>&quot;) and scroll down to the &quot;Display&quot; subsection.
