I thought this ign article had some very good points about games as an art form being taken more seriously.

Yep, totally agree with the article. For example, Wolfenstein's story is and has always been based in the real world of the Thule Society and other 'mystic/mythic' based theosophy and philosophy. Aliens and UFO's? The Nazi's were in to that as well. Games like Oblivion, Guild Wars and other RPG type games are based loosely on the Medieval Period in history where feudalism and fealty reigned and citizens were 'bound' to a monarch. The trick, as the article points out, is in making sure that fantasy isn't confused with reality. Interesting article.
