Once normalmap.exe is copy/pasted into the plug-ins folder the filter will be available from the "
Filters" menu next time GIMP is started. To use: with image open (and flattened, if its a working file) click "
Filters > Map > Normalmap". For most images only "
Scale:" and "
Filter:" values will likely need be changed. Then once done simply save or export the image to the desired format.
Notes on Usage
- Filter works best with regular or man-made structures, i.e. straight lines, blocks and shapes.
- 3D Preview options are for visual reference only - diffuse, gloss and other settings are not applied or assigned to the image being normalised.
- Make sure images only contain grey-scale tones and colours or is fully desaturated
