blender 2.6x knife tool

is there a way to snap it to verts like we could in 2.4x? i can't find any documentation on how to use the latest version in the blender wiki.

Can't help on this one as I don't normally use the knife tool, the last time I used it was in 2.49!

understood and thanks anyway kat, i really liked the 2.49 knife tool, but the 2.6x one seems to have only basic functions, it can't even cut in a straight line along the axis as far as i can tell.
