While the original design was aesthetically designed, the loop for hanging wasn’t robust enough and prone to breaking. To solve this two alternative designs were made that provide more substance while in keeping with the original’s simple styling.

Duration: total c. 30 mins (00:30:00).
Info: 720p (vertical).
Suitability: Beginner+.
Source: KatsBits – Crucifix v2 & v3 (c. 6.5 MB | *.blend, *.stl, *.gcode). In this example of a simple crucifix, the loop hanger through which a chain might pass, was too thin in the original design and prone to breaking. A quick solution to this might be to just make the hanger more robust, making it bigger or thicker, but this might not be in keeping with the objects aesthetics so some effort ought be spent designing updated elements that within the bounds of the original objects styling.

The original loop hang (left) wasn’t robust enough so had to be redesigned but maintaining the theme, with a thicker but rounded loop (middle) and a much squarer version (right).

Print Orientation

When preparing objects for 3D printing their orientation is important as a means to strengthen or weaken a given design of points therein. In other words, as the crucifix loops needs to be strong enough to accommodate the potential day-to-day abuses of being used, the mesh can be laid down to align the loop relative to direction of print head travel, imparting as this does, greater strength because the structure is perpendicular to any pressures that can cause a break.

Aligning the crucifix relative to the print heads travel to impart greater strength in the final object – downward or translational forces don’t have horizontal (relative to the crucifix) fracture points, present due to layering of the print medium, to act against/break across.

Timestamps

Times are approximate;
– n/a

[1013,34,230
1022,1033,639,633,1032,660,1023,1093,286,393
post-9761","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-3d-printing","category-blender","category-tutorials","tag-3d-printing","tag-creality-slicer","tag-jewellery","tag-jewelry","tag-millimeters","tag-orientation","tag-slicer","tag-tiktok","tag-units","tag-units-of-measurement
["GET
