First the default Cube is edited to include a temporary <b>Generated<\/b> image. The mesh is then fully <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/tag\/uv-unwrapping\/\">UV unwrapped and mapped<\/a> before painting can then be done switching the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/tag\/texture-paint\/\">Texture Paint<\/a> workspace. Once the 16 x 16 pixel image is painted it can be saved for further use.<\/p>\n<p><b>Duration<\/b>: total c. 15 mins (00:15:00).<br \/>\n<b>Info<\/b>: 1080p.<br \/>\n<b>Suitability<\/b>: Beginner+.<br \/>\n<b>Source<\/b>: n\/a.<br \/>\n<b>Product<\/b>: n\/a.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: generally speaking painting Minecraft style images using Blender shouldn&#8217;t present any issues, the below however, should be kept in mind;<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"paint-tools\"><\/span>Paint Tools<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><b>Texture Paint<\/b> layout is split down the centre, <b>Texture Editor<\/b> to the left of the centreline, <b>3D Viewport<\/b> on the right. The Editor displays the texture\/image being painted to, the 3D Viewport, the object the image is mapped to &#8211; <i>this is why correct UV unwrapping and UV mapping is important to sort out first<\/i>. Both areas provide access to the same basic texture painting tools [1] though their presentation may differ. Additionally, <b>Properties<\/b> [2] may also show the <b>Tool<\/b> panel, which similarly displays the same core options organised appropriately for the panel. For Minecraft style texture painting, i.e. painting 16 x 16 pixel images, any tool set can be used to paint the image.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/minecraft\/paint-tools.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 98.5%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/minecraft\/paint-tools.jpg\" alt=\"Area paint tools\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>When in <b>Texture Paint<\/b> workspace the layout provides a number of different ways to access the core tools, from the main area headers [1] and the <b>Tool<\/b> panel of <b>Properties<\/b> [2].<\/i><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"specular-highlights\"><\/span>Specular Highlights<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>In <b>Texture Paint<\/b> workspace the 3D Viewport renders the scene in <b>Solid<\/b> mode, with specular highlights, and the texture being painted visible instead of the normal flat-lit grey clay material. As this can make it difficult to properly discern image data as its painted specular highlights should be disabled and\/or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/blender-basics\/\">Viewport Display<\/a> should be switch to <b>Material Preview<\/b> instead. To turn off highlights, in <b>Shading<\/b> [3] options click the <b>Specular Lighting<\/b> checkbox [4] to clear and disable. TO switch render mode click the <b>Material Preview<\/b> icon in the header as normal.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/minecraft\/viewport-shading-options.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 98.5%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/minecraft\/viewport-shading-options.jpg\" alt=\"Disabling Specular Lighting\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i><b>Texture Paint<\/b> uses a modified version of <b>Solid<\/b> mode that includes specular or shiny highlights that can interfere with colour assessment.
