Here the options to alter the grids physical appearance in the 3D View, for both &#8216;free&#8217; and &#8216;locked&#8217; points of view, are grouped under <b>Guides<\/b>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: free and locked views largely refers to the manual manipulation of the 3D View in both perspective and orthogonal (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">NumPad 5<\/span>) versus fixed points of view, i.e. Front (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">NumPad 1<\/span> &#8211; looking along the Y axis), Right (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">NumPad 3<\/span> &#8211; looking along the X axis), Top (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">NumPad 7<\/span> &#8211; looking down the Z axis) etc. &#8211; in &#8216;free&#8217; perspective and orthogonal, Scale is visible, Subdivision increments beyond the default are not, they are only visible in fixed ortho.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"guides-not-grid\"><\/span>Guides not Grid<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Clicking the <b>Overlays<\/b> menu opens the <b>Viewport Overlays<\/b> menu and a set of context sensitive properties under which grid <b>Scale<\/b> and <b>Subdivisions<\/b> can be found sub-sectioned within <b>Guides<\/b>. Here, numerical input alters the grids physical appearance, the relative size (scale) and the number of major and minor divisions, or rows and columns, shown (subdivisions). To change the relative size of the grid <i>increase<\/i> the <b>Scale<\/b> value to make it larger, or <i>decrease<\/i> to make it smaller (<i>lowest value\u00a0 0.001, default 1<\/i>). To change the number of row\/columns displayed, increase <b>Subdivisions<\/b> to add more per major division or decrease to reduce (<i>lowest value 1, default 10<\/i>).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: although the two can be used together to defined a useful measurement and display system it&#8217;s important to understand that <b>Guides<\/b>, GRID scale and subdivisions, work independently of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/units\/\">UNIT scale and subdivisions<\/a>. Note also that grid scale and Unit scale tend to do the opposite of one another, increasing <b>Guide<\/b> scale makes the grid larger, increasing <b>Units<\/b> scale makes it appear smaller.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/grid\/overlays.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/grid\/overlays.jpg\" alt=\"The main grids settings can be found in the Overlays options\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>Grid settings for Blender can be found in the 3D View&#8217;s <b>Overlays<\/b> options now organised as part of the <b>Guides<\/b> system.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/grid\/grid-unit-size.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/grid\/grid-unit-size.jpg\" alt=\"Changing the Grid Scale setting alters the relative size of each cell\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>Changing the grid using the Scale and Subdivisions settings found under Guides will do the opposite of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/units\/\">Unit Scale<\/a> &#8211; whereas the former (Guide based Scale) makes the grid appear larger, the latter (Unit based Scale) makes it appear smaller.<\/i><br \/>\n<!-- <video poster=\"\" controls=\"controls\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><source src=\"\/images\/tutorials\/viewpoint-navigation.mp4\" type=\"video\/mp4\" \/>\n<source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/grid\/guides-settings.ogg\" type=\"video\/ogg\" \/><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/grid\/guides-settings.webm\" type=\"video\/webm\" \/><\/video>\n<i><b>Guides<\/b>, found within the <b>Overlays<\/b> options of the main 3D View, ostensibly replace 'grid settings',now esentially just <b>Scale<\/b> and <b>Subdivisions<\/b>.<\/i> --><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"hide-the-grid\"><\/span>Hide the Grid<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><b>Guides <\/b>also includes additional settings for related aspects of the grid. To show or hide the grid itself (toggle visibility), select or deselect the <b>Grid<\/b> checkbox (this disables\/hides the Scale and Subdivision options). Similarly to show\/hide the primary X, Y and Z grid <b>Axes<\/b>, click the <b>X<\/b>, <b>Y<\/b> and <b>Z<\/b> buttons to activate or deactivate each axis (<i>defaults X and Y<\/i>).
