Changes to selection and manipulation behaviours however, now mean each operation having its own distinct <i>manipulation or transform mode<\/i> that won&#8217;t interfere with other operations, left-clicking to place the 3D Cursor for example, no longer risks inadvertently moving something with <b>Cursor<\/b> mode active.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i><b>Design note<\/b>: if for some reason the default cube appears triangulated when switching to Edit Mode, it can be reverted or converted to quads by selecting everything and using <b>Face \u00bb Tris to Quads<\/b> (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">Alt<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">J<\/span>).<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"background-color: #fc0; color: #000;\"><p><i><b>Important<\/b>: Blenders development is dynamic and ever evolving, as such it is prone to buttons and\/or features being moved, replaced, relegated or hidden without notice, and for no particular rhyme or reason.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/blender-28-basics\/blender-ui-changes.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 98.5%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/blender-28-basics\/blender-ui-changes.jpg\" alt=\"Minor changes occur as Blender develops\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>As Blender develops changes can be implemented that move, hide or replace various buttons and features, shown above for example the navigation aids and Header bar for the 3D View have to tweaked.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"edit-mode\"><\/span>Edit Mode<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As noted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/blender-basics\/\">Blender Basics<\/a> the <b>Sets the object interaction mode<\/b> selector that switches between different interaction modes (editing contexts) has moved to the <i>top-left corner<\/i> of the <b>3D Viewport<\/b>. It still functions the same way so to toggle in\/out of <b>Edit Mode<\/b> click the menu and select the <i>Edit Mode<\/i> option from the list. To exit Edit Mode select another mode option, e.g. <i>Object Mode<\/i> to return to the Scenes default interaction mode.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: the number of modes or editing contexts has not changed from previous versions of Blender.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition to the standard selection menu top-left, different modes can also be switched between using <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Ctrl<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Tab<\/span>. Here using this shortcut combination displays a context-sensitive quick-access wheel\/pie menu where each interaction mode can be chosen, keeping the menu near the mouse cursor.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: in Edit Mode <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Ctrl<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Tab<\/span> accesses the Interaction Mode selection pie menu (Object Mode, Weight Paint, Pose Mode etc.), it no longer displays the element selection options (Vertex, Edge, Face Select). To activate, <i>left-click<\/i> the <b>Cursor<\/b> button in the <b>Toolbar<\/b> (left-side) and <i>left-click<\/i> to reposition, or <i>left-click drag<\/i> to move the cursor around the screen without interruption.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: positioning the 3D cursor may be possible when other tools are active\/being used depending on whether <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/left-click-select\/\">left or right-click is set<\/a> as the default selection action.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit-mode\/3d-cursor-mode.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit-mode\/3d-cursor-mode.jpg\" alt=\" width=\" height=\"512\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i><b>Cursor Transform<\/b> mode now allows the 3D Cursor to be moved independently of object selection\/manipulation.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><video poster=\"\" controls=\"controls\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><!--<source src=\"\/images\/tutorials\/viewpoint-navigation.mp4\" type=\"video\/mp4\" \/>--><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit-mode\/3d-cursor-mode.ogg\" type=\"video\/ogg\" \/><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit-mode\/3d-cursor-mode.webm\" type=\"video\/webm\" \/><\/video><br \/>\n<i>The <b>3D Cursor<\/b> has its own transform mode and can be moved\/positioned in <b>Cursor<\/b> mode or other modes (but may still be positionable depending on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/left-click-select\/\">left\/right-click selection default<\/a>).<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"transform-move-rotate-scale\"><\/span>Transform, Move, Rotate, Scale<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The default behaviour of the <b>3D Widget<\/b>, how its used to <i>highlight<\/i> and <i>manipulate<\/i> selections has been improved in newer versions of Blender. For <b>Move<\/b> (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">G<\/span>) and <b>Scale<\/b> (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">S<\/span>) the widget also includes handles that accommodate transformation along two planar axes in addition to the standard cardinal axes (<b>Rotate<\/b> (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">R<\/span>) remains untouched). To accompany the changes a new\u00a0 global <b>Transform<\/b> widget (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Spacebar<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">T<\/span>) has been added that includes control handles for each Move, Scale and Rotate action so each former manipulator type has their own mode of interaction and mechanics within a single tool. To engage, <i>left-click<\/i> the <b>Transform<\/b>, <b>Move<\/b>, <b>Rotate<\/b> and <b>Scale<\/b> transform manipulation buttons in the <b>Toolbar<\/b> area to the left of the main 3D View when Edit Mode is active (also available in Object Mode).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: the manipulator shortcut keys, i.e. <span class=\"shortcutkey\">G<\/span>, <span class=\"shortcutkey\">R<\/span> and <span class=\"shortcutkey\">S<\/span> do not switch between corresponding Toolbar buttons &#8211; pressing <span class=\"shortcutkey\">G<\/span> when Rotate is active for example, does not highlight\/activate the Move\/Transform buttons (they don&#8217;t highlight), it simply activates the operation whilst the primary tool is enabled.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><video poster=\"\" controls=\"controls\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><!--<source src=\"\/images\/tutorials\/viewpoint-navigation.mp4\" type=\"video\/mp4\" \/>--><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit-mode\/transform-free.ogg\" type=\"video\/ogg\" \/><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit-mode\/transform-free.webm\" type=\"video\/webm\" \/><\/video><br \/>\n<i>In <b>Transform<\/b> mode (formally free-translate, <b>G<\/b>) Move, Rotate and Scale are available in a single operation (can be toggled on\/off separately in the main views Header).<\/i><\/p>\n<p><video poster=\"\" controls=\"controls\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><!--<source src=\"\/images\/tutorials\/viewpoint-navigation.mp4\" type=\"video\/mp4\" \/>--><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit-mode\/transform-move.ogg\" type=\"video\/ogg\" \/><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit-mode\/transform-move.webm\" type=\"video\/webm\" \/><\/video><br \/>\n<i><b>Move<\/b> translates (strafe) objects along individual XYZ axes, two planar axes simultaneously or perpendicular to the view when clicking the (white) inner control loop.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><video poster=\"\" controls=\"controls\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><!--<source src=\"\/images\/tutorials\/viewpoint-navigation.mp4\" type=\"video\/mp4\" \/>--><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit-mode\/transform-rotate.ogg\" type=\"video\/ogg\" \/><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit-mode\/transform-rotate.webm\" type=\"video\/webm\" \/><\/video><br \/>\n<i><b>Rotate<\/b> manipulates selections around individual XYZ axes, free-rotates around all three or perpendicular to the view using the (white) outer control loop.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><video poster=\"\" controls=\"controls\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><!--<source src=\"\/images\/tutorials\/viewpoint-navigation.mp4\" type=\"video\/mp4\" \/>--><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit-mode\/transform-scale.ogg\" type=\"video\/ogg\" \/><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit-mode\/transform-scale.webm\" type=\"video\/webm\" \/><\/video><br \/>\n<i><b>Scale<\/b> manipulates objects along each XYZ axis independently, two planar axes at the same time or all three when clicking the (white) central control loop.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"mesh-tools\"><\/span>Mesh Tools<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When <b>Edit Mode<\/b> is active a series of editing tool buttons appears to the right of the 3D View, the <b>Toolbar<\/b> (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">T<\/span>), some expand to reveal additional options using <i>left-click-hold<\/i>. Here the <b>Vertex<\/b>, <b>Edge<\/b> and <b>Face<\/b> select buttons can be found, now accessed using the numbers <span class=\"shortcutkey\">1<\/span>, <span class=\"shortcutkey\">2<\/span> and <span class=\"shortcutkey\">3<\/span> (main keyboard), for <b>Vertex<\/b>, <b>Edge<\/b> and <b>Face<\/b> respectively once Edit Mode is active (<i>use <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift<\/span> + [option] to select multiple selection options e.g. Vertex and Face<\/i>).
