For selective application this is generally done using <b>Bevel Edges<\/b> and\/or <b>Bevel Vertices<\/b> on specific <i>edge<\/i> or <i>vertex<\/i> selections in <b>Edit Mode<\/b>, with each affecting the selection depending on it being an individual element or group (one edge versus a group of edges).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: bevelling a face, flat plain or contiguous surface basically creates an &#8216;inset&#8217; not a bevel, the latter requiring some degree of edge or corner to work, hence there being no &#8216;<strong>Bevel Faces<\/strong>&#8216; option.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/bevel\/bevel-options.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/bevel\/bevel-options.jpg\" alt=\"Bevel Edges or Bevel Vertices in Blender 2.8+\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>The default Cube with edges and corner vertices separately bevelled, highlighting the different between the two operations in Blender 2.8+.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"bevel-edges\"><\/span>Bevel Edges<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>To modify the mesh using the <b>Bevel<\/b> tool, in the 3D View select an object (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/multi-object-editing\/\">or objects<\/a>) to be affected and toggle into <b>Edit Mode<\/b> (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">Tab<\/span>). To bevel an edge (or edges) switch to <b>Edge Select<\/b> mode and make a selection (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift<\/span> + click to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/left-click-select\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">multi-select<\/a>) then from the <b>Edge<\/b> menu click <b>Bevel Edges<\/b> (or press <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Ctrl<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">B<\/span>) &#8211; <i><b>Edges \u00bb Bevel Edges<\/b><\/i>. The interactive guide will appear (a dashed line); <b>move the mouse<\/b> <i>away from the object to increase<\/i>, or <i>towards to reduce<\/i>, the <i>area<\/i> influenced by the tool, and\/or scroll the <b>middle-mouse<\/b> button <em>up<\/em> to <i>increase<\/i> (or press <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Numpad +<\/span>), or <i>down<\/i> to <i>reduce<\/i> (or press <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Numpad &#8211;<\/span>), the number of subdivisions distributed across the selected distance. Click to apply (or press <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Enter<\/span>).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: for greater precision, once Bevel has been activated type a number, either as a whole value or one that includes decimal placement, i.e. 100 or 9.75 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/units\/\">Unit of Measurement<\/a> may influence the degree to which bevel applies) &#8211; when typing, <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Backspace<\/span> can be used to clear input for re-entry\/typing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"background-color: #fc0; color: #000;\"><p><b>Important<\/b>: both <b>Bevel Edges<\/b> and <b>Bevel Vertices<\/b> being selection based meaning, the degree to which structure modifies being dependent upon, and strictly limited to, those elements selected at time of use. Subsequent selections, those made after the fact, may not change the same structure as expected due to the way modified and unmodified elements intersect. To bevel using the modifier, select the object and in the <b>Modifiers<\/b> properties panel click <b>Add Modifier<\/b> then select <b>Bevel<\/b> from the <b>Generate<\/b> list of options.
