Instead all rendering is initiated from Blenders main Header (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/info\/\">Info editor<\/a> Header). To start a render, static image, animated sequence or audio clip, click the <b>Render<\/b> menu option and select <b>Render Image<\/b> (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">F12<\/span>), <b>Render Animation<\/b> (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">Ctrl<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">F12<\/span>) or <b>Render Audio<\/b> depending on requirements, e.g. <b>Render \u00bb Render Image<\/b>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: to enable\/disable objects being rendered click the <strong>Disable in Renders<\/strong> and\/or <strong>Disable in Viewports<\/strong> icons in the <strong>Outliner<\/strong>. If the options themselves are not visible (may not be depending on the file loaded in or being used), from the <b>Outliner<\/b> click the <b>Filter<\/b> drop-down menu and click the <b>Disable in Renders<\/b> and\/or <b>Disable in Viewports<\/b> button(s), they will then appear in the Outliner ready for use.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/outliner-options.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 98.5%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/outliner-options.jpg\" alt=\"Simple scene set up and ready for rendering to an image in Blender\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>A simple scene in Blender ready for rendering (some objects shown hidden above will be rendered unless that option is specifically disabled, per item, in the <b>Outliner<\/b> Editor &#8211; if the options are not shown click the <b>Filter<\/b> menu and select).<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/render-menu.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/render-menu.jpg\" alt=\"Rendering is now initiated from the main Header\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>Render is now initiated from the <b>Info<\/b> editors <b>Header<\/b> and the Render menu&#8230;<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/render-as.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/render-as.jpg\" alt=\"Render options within the Render menu\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>&#8230; from which the options to <b>Render Image<\/b>, <b>Render Animation<\/b> (and <b>Render Audio<\/b>) are accessible.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"render-window\"><\/span>Render Window<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Once rendering is initiated the <b>Blender Render<\/b> window will appear, essentially a stand-alone instance of the <b>Image Editor<\/b> dedicated to the monitoring of render output (<b>Render Result<\/b>). Here the static (single) image or animated sequence will be displayed as the scene or frames are gradually or sequentially processed.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: depending on the output type selected the render window will display a single image as its processed and\/or each frame of a sequence, both determined by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/render-engine\/\"><b>Engine<\/b> selection<\/a> (Render Properties) and <b>Output<\/b> settings (Output Properties), size etc.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/render-window.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/render-window.jpg\" alt=\"The Render Window displays output as its being processed\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>The Blender Render (render) window displays output as its being processed, a means to monitor progress.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"save-render-images\"><\/span>Save Render (Images)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For (static) renders a single image will be stored temporarily in Blenders image memory\/data buffer so whatever is shown in the Image Editor window will need to be saved manually. To do this, in the <b>Blender Render<\/b> window click the <b>Image<\/b> menu upper-left and select <b>Save<\/b>, <b>Save As&#8230;<\/b> or <b>Save a Copy&#8230;<\/b>, e.g. <b>Image \u00bb Save As&#8230;<\/b>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: temporary render data is not saved with the project (*.blend), if Blender is closed and\/or the project re-opened the scene will need to be re-rendered.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/image-save-as.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/image-save-as.jpg\" alt=\"To save the rendered image click the Image menu\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>Rendered images are saved temporarily into memory so to save in an externally editable format click the <b>Image<\/b> menu and select an option, e.g. <b>Image \u00bb Save As&#8230;<\/b>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Depending on the <i>save<\/i> option selected from the Image menu the <b>File Browser<\/b> opens where the <i>save location<\/i> and <i>format<\/i> of image can be set. Select a location and change the file name if necessary then in <b>Save As Image<\/b> options lower-left (<i>cf. note below<\/i>) select a <b>File Format<\/b>, for example <b>BMP<\/b> or <strong>TIFF<\/strong>, before then clicking the <b>Save As Image<\/b> button upper-right of the window.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: generally speaking the options presented when selecting Save, Save As Image or Save a Copy are the same differing only in the immediacy of action &#8211; if Save is selected Blender will overwrite any previous version(s) unless the image is being saved for the first time, in which case the File Browser appears, whereas with Save As Image&#8230; and Save a Copy the File Browser appears because Blender assumes an iterative save is being carried out.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/save-render-file-browser.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/save-render-file-browser.jpg\" alt=\"Selecting the image format in Save As Image options in the File Browser\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>In <b>Save As Image<\/b> options lower-left, the <b>File Format<\/b> can be selected before clicking the <b>Save As Image<\/b> button upper-right (cf. note above).<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"save-render-animations\"><\/span>Save Render (Animations)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For rendered animations and other sequences Blender writes data generated to <b>\/tmp\\<\/b> as a series of individual images, e.g. *.png, or a movie file, e.g. *.mp4, whilst simultaneously showing progress in the <strong>Blender Render<\/strong> window (as each frame is produced individually). In other words as the nature of the process means each frame is written to a specific location on the fly, it may not need to be manually saved once render has completed what its doing (subject to format). To access, use the system explorer (e.g. Windows 10 File Explorer) to view the folders contents independently of Blender.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: the tmp folder is generated during installation of Blender and typically on the same drive as the application, for example <b>C:\\tmp\\<\/b> would be created were Blender installed to the C:\\ drive (typically C:\\Programs Files (x86)\\Blender\\). The location can be changed in <b>Output Properties<\/b> (cf. below).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/save-render-movie.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/render\/save-render-movie.jpg\" alt=\"Rendered animations are saved automatically\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>Rendered animations and other sequences tend to be saved automatically as a consequence of the process to a specified location that can accessed externally from Blender, typically the <b>\/tmp\\<\/b> folder.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"render-format\"><\/span>Render Format<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The settings associated with rendering images and animations can be set in <b>Output<\/b> Properties. Here under <b>Dimensions<\/b> and <b>Output<\/b>, the size and format of the file (alongside others) can be set, for example a movie rendered as a *.mov at 1920 by 1080 pixels (1080p) and to a specific project location that&#8217;s not \/tmp\\. To do this simply edit the appropriate setting (click-select and amend) and then render.
