What this basically does is allow for content from one *.blend file to be brought in to another, for example a cell phone mesh from one file imported into another project based on the female or male <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/imvu-starter-files\/\">Accessory Starter File<\/a>. To do this, open a Starter File in Blender, click the <b>File<\/b> menu, then <b>Append<\/b> &#8211; <b>File \u00bb Append<\/b>. This opens the <b>File Browser<\/b>.<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"background-color: #fc0; color: #000;\"><p><b>Important<\/b>: if <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/tag\/imvu-studio-toolkit\/\">IMVU Toolkit for Blender<\/a> is installed additional attention should be paid to scaling as the Toolkit&#8217;s template content is scaled relative to Blender for usability (exports correctly scaled). In practice tool content should be loaded as a reference before import\/appending. To (re)scale after Append\/Import, select the mesh then in <b>Object Properties<\/b> [i] change the X, Y and Z values of <b>Scale<\/b> [ii] to fit the project.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-studio\/import-append-scale.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 98.5%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-studio\/import-append-scale.jpg\" alt=\"Toolkit Scaling\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>Rescaling meshes after Append\/Import into Blender if Toolkit is being used &#8211; in <b>Object Properties<\/b> [i] change <b>Scale<\/b> [ii] to adjust relative to the Toolkit template content.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: it&#8217;s generally best practice to load content into a Starter File as they are correctly scaled for IMVU and act as a proper size\/scale references for custom content.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-tips\/file-append.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-tips\/file-append.jpg\" alt=\"Using Append in Blender 2.8 for IMVU\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>Using the IMVU Starter Files as the basis for different projects meshes from other Blender projects can be brought in using <b>Append<\/b>.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"file-browser\"><\/span>File Browser<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In the <b>File Browser<\/b> find (browse to) the file from which content is to be appended. Click to select a source. A series of folders will be shown each representing a different category of data within the *.blend. Click the <b>Object<\/b> folder to access its contents, a list of all the <i>objects<\/i> contained in the source file. Select the individual component(s) (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift<\/span> + for multiple selections) and click the <b>Append from Library<\/b> button top-right to bring the selection into the open project.<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"background-color: #fc0; color: #000;\"><p><b>Important<\/b>: depending on the version of Blender used in the 2.8+\/2.9+ series, <b>Append<\/b> may present the <b>File Browser<\/b>, necessary for content navigation, as an embedded area or a separate overlay window [1] that may also have undergone some reorganisation. The way files are browsed, and data appended into a project, remain the same however &#8211; to <b>Append<\/b>, open the <b>File Browser<\/b> [1] from <b>File \u00bb Append<\/b>, browse to and select the file containing the parts to be imported, double-click then again on the <b>Object<\/b> folder [2], select the part\/s and click the <b>Append<\/b> button [3] to complete.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-tips\/append-imvu-updated.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 98.5%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-tips\/append-imvu-updated.jpg\" alt=\"Append File Broswer overlay window\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<video poster=\"\" controls=\"controls\" width=\"98.5%\" height=\"auto\"><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-tips\/append-imvu-updated.mp4\" type=\"video\/mp4\" \/><source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-tips\/append-imvu-updated.ogg\" type=\"video\/ogg\" \/><!-- source src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/collections\/collection-shortcut.webm\" type=\"video\/webm\" \/ --><\/video><br \/>\n<i>Depending on the version of Blender the File Browser may appear as an overlay windows instead of an embedded area during Append. The general process to select and bring in data remains unchanged however.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: if saved with the *.blend file, browsing the <b>Object<\/b> folder, meshes, lights, cameras and other types of &#8216;entities&#8217; will be available\/accessible. To make selection easier it&#8217;s a good idea to name them in the source (where appropriate) to make identification less confusing. This can be done in <b>Object Properties<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-tips\/name-objects.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 98.5%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-tips\/name-objects.jpg\" alt=\"Naming objects for easier identification\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>Naming objects for easier identification &#8211; select the object then access <b>Object<\/b> Properties, in the <b>Name<\/b> input field at the top of the panel, type a new name, press <b>Enter<\/b> (or click elsewhere) to confirm. Alternatively double-click the name listed in the <b>Outliner<\/b> and type a new name. Press Enter to confirm.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-tips\/object-folder.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-tips\/object-folder.jpg\" alt=\"Access the Object folder to select item to append\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>Use the <b>File Browser<\/b> to select the source *.blend (shown above as thumbnails) containing the items to be brought in to the open project using <b>Append<\/b>.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"object-scalesize\"><\/span>Object Scale\/Size<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>IMVU&#8217;s scaling is much larger than Blenders so once an object has been brought in using <strong>Append<\/strong> it may appear as though nothing has happened. To check Append worked correctly, in the <b>Outliner<\/b> editor upper-right side, scroll though the entries listed to see if one is highlighted and\/or corresponds to the object imported &#8211; if any entry exists the item was brought in, it&#8217;s just very small compared to the avatar helpers and needs to be scaled up to match.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: because items brought in using Append are typically selected by default <b>Frame Selected<\/b> can be used as an alternative way to confirm import &#8211; immediately after appending something press <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Numpad .<\/span>, or select <b>View \u00bb Frame Selected<\/b>, to refocus the view on the highlighted items.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-tips\/object-size.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/imvu-tips\/object-size.jpg\" alt=\"Access the Object folder to select item to append\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>To confirm the selected object\/s have been brought into Blender use the <b>Outliner<\/b> to check for a corresponding entry, or press <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Numpad .<\/span> (period) to focus on the selected items before scaling them up to suit IMVU&#8217;s references.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>To scale the item, in <b>Object<\/b> properties under <b>Transform<\/b>, change the default X\/Y\/Z <b>Scale<\/b> values from <b>1.000<\/b> to <b>100.000<\/b> (<i>Scale X: 100.000, Y: 100.000 and Z: 100.000<\/i>). Alternative press the <span class=\"shortcutkey\">S<\/span> key to activate (universal) <b>Scale<\/b> and type <b>100<\/b>, press <b>Enter<\/b> to confirm (alternatively select the Scale widget in the Toolbar to the left then click-drag its inner area to scale uniformly).
