color: #000;\"><p><b>Important<\/b>: if LEFT-click is set as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/left-click-select\/\">selection default in Blender<\/a> it may disable or interfere with other operations and function associated with the left-mouse button, e.g. <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Ctrl<\/span> + left-click drag will no longer <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/border-select\/\">Lasso Select<\/a><\/b>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/select\/border-select.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/select\/border-select.jpg\" alt=\"Blender offers three main types of 'border' selection\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>The border <b>Select<\/b> options in <b>Object Mode<\/b> &#8211; in the 3D View, and where the option is available, the group icon typically stays in the same place in the <b>Toolbar<\/b> regardless of the Mode that&#8217;s active.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"selection-types\"><\/span>Selection Types<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The three main types selection that use a border or an area to add multiple objects or elements, are;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Box Select (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">B<\/span> alternatively <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Space<\/span> \u00bb <span class=\"shortcutkey\">B<\/span>).<\/li>\n<li>Circle Select (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">C<\/span> alternatively <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Space<\/span> \u00bb <span class=\"shortcutkey\">C<\/span>).<\/li>\n<li>Lasso Select (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Space<\/span> \u00bb <span class=\"shortcutkey\">2<\/span>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: for <b>Box<\/b> and <b>Circle<\/b> select, whilst the traditional shortcut keys work, <span class=\"shortcutkey\">B<\/span> and <span class=\"shortcutkey\">C<\/span>, the border selection tools are also accessible from a context menu that pops up using <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Spacebar<\/span> where a new shortcut, <span class=\"shortcutkey\">2<\/span>, has been added for lasso select.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote style=\"background-color: #fc0; color: #000;\"><p><b>Important<\/b>: to properly enable border selection make sure to press shortcut key and mouse click in the correct order; Box &#8211; <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Space<\/span> \u00bb <span class=\"shortcutkey\">B<\/span>, Circle &#8211; <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Space<\/span> \u00bb <span class=\"shortcutkey\">C<\/span> and Lasso &#8211; <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Space<\/span> \u00bb <span class=\"shortcutkey\">2<\/span>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/select\/border-select-options.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/select\/border-select-options.jpg\" alt=\"Left-click hold the Select button to reveal selection options\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>When left-clicking the <b>Select<\/b> button (top-left), holding for a second or two will expand the options to reveal <b>Box<\/b>, <b>Circle<\/b> and <b>Lasso<\/b>.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"selection-use\"><\/span>Selection Use<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When left-click dragging the mouse in any editor or area where the option is available;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Box Select<\/b> will draw out a box or area, selecting anything within the border defined.<\/li>\n<li><b>Circle Select<\/b> will &#8216;paint&#8217; or click-select objects, only those actively selected will be included.<\/li>\n<li><b>Lasso Select<\/b> draws out a manually shaped area defined by the mouse and where it travels, selecting objects within the border delineated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: in <b>Object Mode<\/b> (3D View) selection is not based on the mass or structure of a mesh but its <b>Origin<\/b>, so long as an Origin falls within a selection boundary the object, and associated mesh, will be included.
