What this allows is for completely independent and separate OBJECTS to be edited as part of a larger editable group of objects in Edit Mode, for example three independent cube meshes selected and edited as a unit without needing to be joined (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">Ctrl<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">J<\/span>) beforehand.<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"background-color: #fc0; color: #000;\"><p><b>Important<\/b>: although <b>multi-object editing<\/b> allows multiple objects to edited during the same Edit Mode operation, they cannot be joined nor have new structure or connections made between objects while doing this. To do that, objects have to be physically joined together to form a single editable mesh.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><b>Design note<\/b>: for Blender 2.79 or earlier multi-object editing is only available as a third-party AddOn.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"multi-object-editing\"><\/span>Multi-Object Editing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Working with multiple objects in Edit Mode [1] is as simple as selecting each object in Object Mode first [2], <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift<\/span> + <i>[click]<\/i> (<i>left<\/i> or <i>right<\/i> depending on mouse set-up), to create a selection group [3], then toggling into <b>Edit Mode<\/b> using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/edit-mode-basics\/\">Interaction Mode selector<\/a> [1] or pressing the <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Tab<\/span> key. Only those objects selected and forming the group will be available for modification.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit\/edit-selected-object.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit\/edit-selected-object.jpg\" alt=\"Editing selected\/single object in Edit Mode\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit\/editing-multiple-objects.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/images\/tutorials\/edit\/editing-multiple-objects.jpg\" alt=\"Editing multiple independent objects in Edit Mode\" width=\"900px\" height=\"500px\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<i>It&#8217;s now possible to edit multiple objects at the same time, separate meshes that form a larger selection group, without needing to join them together into a single mesh beforehand. This is available by default &#8211; <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Shift +<\/span> select several items and <span class=\"shortcutkey\">Tab<\/span> into Edit Mode.<\/i><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"exit-multi-object-editing\"><\/span>Exit Multi-Object Editing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Once in Edit Mode each of the objects within the larger group can be edited as though they are part of the same mesh (joined together) [7] without the need to physically <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katsbits.com\/codex\/join-meshes\/\">Join<\/a> them together (<span class=\"shortcutkey\">Ctrl<\/span> + <span class=\"shortcutkey\">J<\/span>).
