Q3Map2 compiling & Common Error Messages
The following text is a collection of Questions & Answers in relation to common error messages that occur during the process of compiling maps and levels with either Q3Map or the updated Q3Map2 for use in any game powered by the Quake 3 engine.
It was originally posted on the Quake3World level editing forums before the big f.u.b.a.r. of late 2004. Thanks to a forward thinking chap (thanks scourge34) a copy was saved and all was not lost..! It's an ongoing resource that has been gathered over a number of years by several helpful and dedicated individuals from the Quake3World community. It's not a complete list of all the possible error messages that might crop up, but a comment on the more frequent problems that arise from editing and creating content for games based on the Quake 3 engine.

compiling with -patchshadows
Can someone explain me how to compile with -patchshadows on? Where and how do I execute / add this option? [BNA]
A : Assuming you don't want to go for a full out "let's go into DOS and compile the thing", then I suggest you either create a new bsp menu option, or modify the existing ones. This can be done using the project settings on the file menu. However, if i remember correctly, there is a line limit in the edit box, which truncates even the default ones, so you might have to open the project file up in notepad or something similar, and just add a new line there. If you study some of the existing ones, you are sure to understand the format. [djbob]
additional note : I had to add the -patchshadows option manually in Q3Radiant because of that line limit, but in GTK 1.1.1 using the built in editor seems to work just fine. [pjw]
